Nina JohnsonMarketing Co-Chair

    Nina has over 20 years of experience directing strategic initiatives for the city of Santa Barbara. She is a creative problem-solver who turns ideas into action. Her passion is engaging the public, leading innovation, and collaborating with diverse groups to advance organizational goals and a community vision.

    In her position as Senior Assistant to Santa Barbara’s City Administrator, she leads marketing, community relations, and high priority projects. She is a strong advocate for local businesses and entrepreneurs, active in forming public-private partnerships to enhance economic vitality and planning demonstration projects to gain acceptance for new ideas.  She is currently working with the local design community to encourage creative use of vacant buildings downtown and transform underutilized parks and streets into vibrant spaces.

    Past achievements include driving sustainability programs and policies, implementing outdoor smoking laws, and building management systems for the organization.  She directed a public outreach campaign on citywide infrastructure needs, resulting in the successful passage of a 1-cent general sales tax to repair roads and essential facilities.

    Nina is active in numerous non-profit organizations. She is the recipient of multiple awards for her accomplishments and community impact from the National Association of Women Business Owners in Santa Barbara, Citizens Planning Association, Santa Barbara Beautiful, and Santa Barbara Independent. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from Drake University and a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning from UCLA.
