Melissa V. Moreno, J.D., currently serves as Chair of the Central Coast chapter of the MIT Enterprise Forum. Additionally, she completed her undergraduate studies at University of California, Santa Barbara, attended Pepperdine University School of Law on a Dean’s Merit Scholarship, and graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from Santa Barbara College of Law. She is admitted to the California State Bar and is also a licensed California Real Estate Broker.
For the past 20 years, Melissa has been steered from the practice of law into various business and academic opportunities. She is equally comfortable working in an academic setting as she is in a dynamic business environment, and embraces the challenge of creating something from nothing. As its Founding Director, Melissa launched and now runs the Scheinfeld Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Santa Barbara City College, a national award recipient and a recognized community college model. She also started the Santa Barbara County Small Business Development Center and leads a team providing no-cost business consulting to the local community. An entrepreneur in her own right, and after 20 years owning and operating a hotel, she recently launched her own hospitality brand and acquired a hotel to develop its prototype. In her spare time, she consults with small businesses, and teaches Business Plan Development at Santa Barbara City College.
