About the Panelists

Paul Willard, Partner, Storm Ventures

Paul Willard is  a Partner at Storm Ventures.  He is focusing on enterprise software primarily in SaaS, Health Tech, and Robotics-as-a-Service.  For 14 years, he was a product, design, marketing and analytics executive at tech startups including Coupons.com, Practice Fusion, Atlassian and NextCard.  Before there were interwebs, he was an aerodynamics engineer at Boeing.  He spends his free time with his family and fixing up old houses.

 

 

Tim Lebeau, Chief Business Development Officer, Seek Thermal

Tim LeBeau is the Chief Business Development Officer at Seek Thermal, Inc.  As one of the first employees at Seek Thermal, Tim oversees all aspects of corporate strategy and market expansion.

He is a highly sought after futurist who frequently is featured as a keynote speaker at the largest global technology conferences including Rise and CES.  His speaking topics have been focused on Autonomous Driving, Vehicle Safety, IOT, and Artificial Intelligence.

Tim worked for Bosch, where he led global teams in the development and launch of several product lines that utilized advanced methods in research, development, industrial design, innovation and manufacturing. From Bosch, Tim joined Stanley Black & Decker, applying his unique breakthrough approach to product development and commercialization, while leading several P&L’s to significantly grow segments across the globe. Tim went on to join Harman International where he successfully restructured the strategy of the organization and developed a critical foundation for future growth.

​Tim’s experience with building successful businesses has also been leveraged by several companies in the start-up phase looking to disrupt their respective industry, including Beats by Dr. Dre, now one of the most iconic brands in recent history. Tim graduated from Eastern Illinois University and holds an MBA from DePaul University’s Charles H. Kellstadt Graduate School of Business.

Yasamin Mostofi, Professor, College of Engineering, UCSB

Yasamin Mostofi received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Sharif University of Technology, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford University. She is currently a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California Santa Barbara. Yasamin is the recipient of the 2016 Antonio Ruberti Prize from the IEEE Control Systems Society, the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER award, and the IEEE 2012 Outstanding Engineer Award of Region 6 (more than 10 Western U.S. states), among other awards. Her research is at the intersection of communications and robotics, on mobile sensor networks. Current research thrusts include X-ray vision for robots, RF sensing, communication-aware robotics, occupancy estimation, see-through imaging, and human-robot collaboration. Her research has appeared in several reputable news venues such as BBC, Huffington Post, Daily Mail, Engadget, TechCrunch, NSF Science360, ACM News, and IEEE Spectrum, among others.

Moderator

Jon Morra, VP Data Science, ZEFR

Jon Morra is the Vice President of Data Science at ZEFR, a video ad-tech company. His team’s main focus is on figuring out the best videos to deliver ZEFR’s client to optimize their advertising campaign objectives based on the content of the videos. In this role, he leads a team of data scientists whom are responsible for extracting information from both videos and clients to create data driven models.

Prior to ZEFR, Jon was the director of data science at eHarmony where he helped increase both the breath and depth fo data science usage. Jon holds a BS from Johns Hopkins and a PhD from UCLA in Biomedical Engineering.
