Brian P. Healy is an EdTech industry sales leader who for over 25 years has forged partnerships with senior decision makers on both sides of the table who control the flow of education products and services across the globe. His birds-eye view of the global EdTech market and deep sales expertise have been vital resources which have helped hundreds of companies ranging from startups to many of the biggest names in EdTech succeed in the Pre-K through Higher Education markets. He has built EdTech companies; hired, trained and developed over 300 education industry sales and marketing leaders; designed and managed sales channel partnerships in over 50 countries and helped many organizations map out their go-to-market strategy.

Mr. Healy’s expertise and experience in EdTech product innovation and sales growth strategies, combined with the passion he shares with his clients for the power of innovations to positively impact students and make schools more efficient and effective, has been the catalyst for his success. JIM HURLEY, Founder & CEO, Lesson Planet

Visionary and veteran EdTech entrepreneur Jim Hurley is Founder and CEO of award-winning open educational resources company Lesson Planet, the leading online curriculum search solution serving hundreds of thousands of Pre-K through 12th grade educators across the country.

Mr. Hurley’s forward-thinking mindset and mission to help all teachers be great teachers led him from a career as a special education teacher and UCSB EdTech instructor to K-12 teachers to founding local startup success story Lesson Planet in a two-room office in Santa Barbara in 1999. Since then, the company has enjoyed explosive growth to over 50 employees, a catalog of more than 400,000 teacher-reviewed curriculum resources, and an award-winning “curated search engine” which enables teachers across the country to easily search for lesson plans, worksheets, videos, articles, powerpoint presentations and other educational resources within an online, professional community.

GEORGE TAMAS, President, LearnX and President, Interactive Virtual Learning

George Tamas is a leading innovator and pioneer in government and educational uses of technology with more than three decades of experience in top management positions for computer software/service organizations and technology consulting companies. Mr. Tamas has made numerous significant contributions in EdTech, particularly in the area of global learning networks which deliver highly effective and efficient virtual learning systems integrated with transferable micro-credentials/digital badges and lifelong learning records.

Mr. Tamas is currently President of LearnX, the portable universal credentialing system of IMT that securely manages personal lifelong learning histories, including verifiable micro-credentials/digital badges, and is fully transferable across military, academic and corporate organizations. Mr. Tamas’ experience and innovations in curriculum management, articulation management, and credentialing led him to the design of LearnX’s novel micro-credentialing ecosystem. His proposal for such a design was sponsored by the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) initiative and was funded by the US Department of Defense. Mr. Tamas also served as the lead investigator for the MIL-CRED Project, a Department of Defense-funded project to develop a new international standard for transferable micro-credentials which facilitates evaluation of learning/skills across military, corporate, and academic organizations for credit/placement purposes.

Mr. Tamas is also serving as President of IVL, the interactive virtual learning division of IMT, which provides state of the art interactive global video learning infrastructure and learning technology consulting for major corporate, military, and academic organizations with direct emphasis on driving verifiably higher levels of knowledge transfer, comprehension and retention than traditional training methods. IVL clients have included AT&T, Ericsson, Hilton Worldwide, and the US Department of Defense/Naval Education & Training Command.

Mr. Tamas previously served as CEO of Governet, where he led the development of the most widely used web-based curriculum management system, CurricUNET, which currently serves several hundred colleges and universities, including four statewide systems in CA, IL, IA, and OH. He also led Governet’s development of the ASSIST: Next Generation project, which serves 145 campuses of the California public higher education system, including the University of California, CSU, and CCC systems.

KRISTIN HORTON, Education Chair, MITEF CC and Founder & President, Haven Capital Group, Inc.

Kristin W. Horton, CFA is President and CEO of Haven Capital Group, Inc., a private, independent investment management firm providing custom portfolio management and financial planning for high net worth individuals and families, trusts, not-for-profits, corporations and retirement plans.

Ms. Horton is a 25-year veteran of the investment management field. She earned her undergraduate degree from Wellesley College and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. She holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, a California Real Estate Salesperson’s license, and is a member of the Los Angeles Society of Financial Analysts. During her career, she served as U.S. liaison to Merrill Lynch’s Latin American investment banking effort, and later managed custom portfolios and mutual funds worth over $5 billion in the aggregate as part of Putnam Investments’ international bond team. Ms. Horton also served as an economist and market strategist covering Germany and France for Putnam Investments and representing the firm in the Far East. She acted as banking and technology analyst for Morgan Stanley’s equity research department, and managed over $235 million of custom portfolios for a California investment firm before opening Haven Capital Group in 2009.

Ms. Horton serves on the Board of Directors of State Street Ballet, as President of the Wellesley Club of Santa Barbara and on the Breast Cancer Resource Center’s fundraising committee. A frequent contributor to the financial press, she is active in the Santa Barbara Investment Forum and Channel City Club and is a past President of the Junior League of Santa Barbara.
