He previously served as CEO of Teledyne Scientific & Imaging from 2007-2012; VP Technology, Raytheon Network Centric Systems 2002-2006; Director Technology, Raytheon Tactical Systems 2001-2002; General Manager, Raytheon Vision Systems 1998-2001.

kevin_rileyDr. Kevin J. Riley served as President of Teledyne Scientific & Imaging, LLC (TS&I) from 2007-2012. Dr. Riley joined TS&I in January 2007 from Raytheon where he led technology strategy & roadmaps, IR&D planning and CRAD program capture as Vice President of Technology for Raytheon’s Network Centric Systems business unit. He has served on numerous Scientific Advisory Boards including: Executive Committee Network Centric Operations Industry Consortia; AFRL MANTECH Industry Advisory Panel; National Team Aeronautics Research & Development; Aviation Week Net Centric Operations Committee; Advisory Executive in MIT/ARMY Institute for Soldier Nanotechnology; Panelist Defense Systems Management College; Strategic Focus Group for PEO GCSS and Military Sensing Symposia Infrared Detector Advisory Group. Dr. Riley is a graduate of Management of Innovative Technology, Cal Tech; Executive Management, UCLA; Six Sigma Leadership & Six Sigma Specialist, Raytheon Learning Institute; and Business Leadership Program, University of Chicago. He received his BS, MS & PhD degrees from Syracuse University in Physics.

Bill Parrish PhotoWilliam J. Parrish, Co-Founder & CTO, Seek Thermal,Inc. Bill Parrish received his engineering education at UCSB graduating BSEE ’73, MSEE ’74, and PhD EE ’76 emphasizing integrated circuit design and fabrication. Employed by Hughes Aircraft in 1976 through 1980 at the Carlsbad and Santa Barbara Research Centers, he worked developing new infrared detection concepts.  Many of the advances have become standard design practices of today’s infrared industry. In 1981, he founded Amber Engineering which focused on commercializing advanced military infrared technology by applying novel engineering and business practices to dramatically reduce cost thereby revolutionizing the infrared industry.  Bill steered Amber as CEO for its first four years and served as Chairman until the company was acquired by Raytheon in 1992.  Amber was unique in that it was bootstrap financed from profit on revenues through its entire history.

As a founder and original CEO of Indigo Systems, Bill led the company through extraordinary growth, again without external funding during its formative years, from 1996 to 2001.  Indigo Systems became the technology leader in commercial infrared growing from $800,000 revenue in the first year to over $75 million just six years later.  This rapid success resulted in Indigo being recognized as one of Deloitte’s “Fast 50” in 2002 and 2003 and named the South Coast Business and Technology Company of the Year in 2001.  He remained chairman of Indigo’s Board until the company merged with FLIR Systems in January of 2004.

Bill founded Tyrian Systems (now Seek Thermal) in 2012 to develop, manufacture and market dramatically lower cost infrared camera cores for consumer, commercial and industrial uses.  The order-of-magnitude cost reductions are expected to fuel many new applications for thermal imaging and measurement.  Seek introduced its first products in the fall of 2014.

Bill is an acknowledged expert in infrared technology with numerous papers and patents and has received multiple technology and leadership awards including MSS Fellow, The Levinstein Award for Infrared Technology Leadership and Management, South Coast Business and Technology Entrepreneur of the Year in 2002, and UCSB’s  Narayanamurti Entrepreneurial Leadership Co-Award (The Venky) in 2004.

Arthur Stout, Vice President, Security, FLIR Systems. Art Stout, Vice President of Business Development for FLIR Systems, has 30 years of infrared imaging industry experience. He began his career in 1985 with Agema Infrared as National Sales Manager in Sweden, now the headquarters of FLIR’s instrument products division. In 1994 Art joined Amber Engineering in Santa Barbara as Director of Business Development for Commercialization, where he built a network of professional sales representatives, managed standard product marketing and led a number of commercial joint ventures.

In 1998 Art joined FLIR Systems in Portland, OR as Director of Marketing. In 2000 he joined Electrophysics in Fairfield, NJ as Vice President of Business Development, where he helped grow the business from $3 million to over $15 million in sales. Along with the company founder, Art negotiated the sale of Electrophysics to Sofradir of France to establish their US Headquarters. Art rejoined FLIR Systems in 2010 and has held a variety of Senior Business Development roles.

Art is a graduate of Rutgers University with a BS in Economics.

klapper (2)Stuart H. Klapper is the Managing Director of Autoliv Night Vision, a division of Autoliv, Inc., a $9.2 billion Fortune 500 company.  Autoliv has 80 facilities in 28 countries.

Stuart has overall responsibility for Autoliv’s global Night Vision business, with key operations in California and Sweden. In addition, he is actively participating in multiple Highly Automated Driving projects.

Autoliv Night Vision is the world leader in Automotive Night Vision systems, providing drivers enhanced visibility at night. Current generation systems alert drivers for pedestrians and animals on or near the road at night. Key customers include Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and Rolls Royce. Cadillac and additional automakers will launch Night Vision later this year.

Autoliv’s Goleta plant is the world leader in far infrared camera production. Autoliv’s Linköping technical center is a world leader in vision based detection algorithms and advanced driving functions.

Stuart joined Autoliv in 2006 after nearly 30 years of experience in the development of advanced infrared sensor systems. At Autoliv, he led the innovation of the world’s first automotive pedestrian and animal detection systems.

Prior to joining Autoliv, Stuart held a variety of director level positions at Raytheon, Texas Instruments and L-3 Communications. At Raytheon, he pioneered the world’s first automotive night vision system on the 2000 Cadillac Deville. He also co-founded Raytheon’s Commercial Infrared business which paved the way for a new class of low cost infrared cameras. Stuart began his journey of Night Vision for cars in 1985 while a project manager at Hughes Aircraft Company – pursuing and combining his love of cars, cameras and technology

This program will be moderated by Leslie Edwards, PhD, Director of Corporate Business Development, Engineering & Sciences, UCSB.

leslie_edwardsLeslie Edwards, PhD, is the Director of Corporate Business Development for the College of Engineering and Math Life and Physical Sciences at UC Santa Barbara. Leslie provides corporations with insightful access to campus faculty, students, strategic planning for heightened corporate visibility, and other key tools for success between industry and the university. She has an extensive background in relationship building between UC Santa Barbara and corporations. Before coming to UC Santa Barbara, Leslie spent a decade working in the biotech industry and has experience with corporate research, product development, and management. She has been the Manager of division pharmacology and toxicology at a biophysics company, Miravant, worked at Amgen as an Associate Scientist when there were less than 130 employees, and as a consultant in the field of regulatory toxicology. In addition, Leslie has an extensive background in university education/teaching, program development, and research knowledge. She worked both within the sciences (Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology) as a lecturer and academic coordinator, for the inter-disciplinary program between the sciences and engineering (Biomolecular Science and Engineering) as an academic coordinator, for the College of Engineering, as a Assistant Dean of Development who emphasized corporate relations, and as the Manager of the Technology Management Program. In addition, Leslie continues to teach courses on developing FDA approved therapeutics within the biotechnology industry.
